What is Objectivity/Assist? Objectivity/Assist (also called Assist) is a tool for viewing and managing the data, files, and system resources of an Objectivity/DB federated database. You can use Assist to perform various administrative and development tasks. For example, a developer might use Assist to see whether an application populated a federated database correctly. Or, a database administrator could use Assist to determine where a federated database's files and processes are located. Assist is a collection of plug-ins to the Eclipse Platform, a general-purpose integrated development environment (IDE) that serves as a workbench for running tools from a variety of vendors. For convenience, you can install and use the Eclipse Platform that is provided with Objectivity/DB. If your computer already has an Eclipse installation, you can use it instead of the one provided with Objectivity/DB. For information about configuring your own Eclipse for Assist, see the Objectivity/DB installation chapter of Installation and Platform Notes for your platform. Assist uses the standard graphical user interface conventions of Eclipse Platform. When you use Assist to view and work with Objectivity/DB components, you use Eclipse operations to navigate Eclipse-style editors, views, and so on. Where can I learn more about how to use Objectivity/Assist? Objectivity/DB provides basic tutorials through the Objectivity/Assist product. There you will find basic information about Assist as well as basic Objectivity/DB concepts. |
